Goliathus orientalis

Goliath beetles are often considered the holy grail of beetle breeding due their impressive size and required care. This species of less often kept than Goliathus goliatus and can prove more difficult in the larval stages due to unpredictable weight loss and mortality.

We started with just four larvae and still have all four with us, but their growth has not been a simple straight line with regards to growth. She of them lose weight almost weekly for no apparent reason and overall growth is far smaller than we hoped.

The larvae are fed every two days on a diet of koi pellets which we spray generously with rainwater to make them easier to eat. Any uneaten pellets are discarded as they attract mites.
