Protaetia speciosa cyanochlora

Discovered in the Zagros mountains of Iran these stunning beetles have proved very popular in the beetle breeding hobby. Their requirements are the same as jousellini in that they must have a three month winter diapause. This is achieved by slowly decreasing the substrate temperature down to around 7-8 degrees over a 2-3 week period. After 2 months at this temperature it can then be slowly increased again. This is essential in order to achieve maximum egg laying.

We keep the adults in a deep organic substrate of mixed oak and beech leaves with white rotten oak.

The adults of this species sell out very quickly once available so use the 'notify when available' option to avoid disappointment.

Our first attempt resulted in 18 larvae from one pair, we have increased this with our seconds generation adults using only 1 male and 2 females.

Our current trio of adults have been alive for over seven months and have so far produced 22 offspring. Our L3 larvae are currently three months into their Winter diapause and should begin to pupate around Easter 2026.
