Protaetia speciosa jousellini
This is one of our favourite beetle species - they are absolutely stunning!

We have had good success so far by breeding these beetles in a fairly small tank with a 25cm deep substrate. We are aiming to build up a much larger breeding stock of these this year as we sold most of our adults last year to fund the growth of our business.

Our second generation of these beetles have just begun to emerge this July and will begin breeding in the coming months. When they first emerge from their pupa the colours are significantly different and then change as the elytra harden.

One newly emerged pair have a very different colour variation on their elytra and pronoun, they are much closer to blue than green and lack the red colouration expected of this species. We have separated this pair to determine if it is a genetic difference or a mutation related to conditions during the larval stages or diapause.
